It’s hard to believe the number of anglers on our public waters has declined over the past decade. According to a survey conducted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, angler numbers dropped 15 percent between 1996 and 2006. Visit any lake on a pleasant Saturday during spring and you’d never guess there are fewer anglers. Fishing pressure seems more intense than ever, and finding an empty section of water on a weekend afternoon is just about impossible. And in some cases, so is catching a few bass.
