Crappie anglers often overlook rocks as they search for typical cover like fallen trees, brushpiles or docks. That’s fine with Kent Driscoll and Ronnie Capps. While other anglers are passing up riprap, bluff walls and other natural rock formations, Driscoll and Capps are busy catching fish off them. As a strong west wind blew across Arkabutla Lake, Capps wanted a break from the rough water and biting wind. He was pre-fishing for an upcoming tournament, but he was having difficulty keeping his baits in the strike zone and his boat in position. So he packed up, went for a ride and ended up at the dam. “The water was calm right up against the riprap dam, and I wasn’t expecting much at all,” he says. “I just wanted some protection for a little while, but I figured I might as well try it while I was there.”
