Catch More Bass Now: Right Spot, Perfect Presentation

There is no question that warm afternoons trigger the best bass activity during the early season. Many times I’ve tried mornings and had very limited success, but the same spots in the afternoon were crawling with active bass. I have even re-fished the hot areas of the previous afternoon the following morning just to prove a point, and as I suspected, bass activity was very slow.

When to hit the water depends on what type of area you’re fishing. If it’s a shallow bay off the main deep waters, some action may start in late morning, especially if a warm sun is quickly heating up the shallows. The other extreme would be a clear, shallow flat that butts up to deeper water. In this situation where the bass move in from adjacent depths, it usually takes a little more time for things to heat up and the fish to become active.
