Put a skilled crappie angler on a typical reservoir during spring, summer or fall and the first things he’ll probably look for are fallen trees. Whether it’s a freshly fallen oak, a decade-old maple or an unidentifiable log, laydowns are fantastic places to probe for crappie during all but the hottest or coldest months. Alabama guide Brad Whitehead has found that laydowns are one of the most consistent producers of quality fish. He hits them hard in spring and fall and even works them in summer.
